As we embark on a second Trump presidency, many are eager to see what is next in our great country as they are excited to be relieved from the current administration. As a believer in Jesus Christ, we need to remember we vote according to biblical principles, and not the world system. What biblical values should we espouse when contemplating the political climate?
The foremost biblical principle the Christian voter should be consider is abortion, Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17. The bible makes it adamantly clear that this is an abomination to God, with no justification. To deliberately vote for this is to go against the Word of God and is a form of rebellion against the faith. Whereas this issue is quite clear with hardly any room for debate; there are several more contentious topics.
The welfare state that has been built in our country had created unbridled entitlement, lazy hands, and toxic dependency on an already overloaded indebted government. It’s not only not sustainable, but it is encouraging a population people who cannot use their own brain to fend for themselves. The bible makes it clear that man should work with his own hands, unless he is physically unable to. This is also reflected in the parable of the talents. However, many Christians omit this when voting.
Being the land of opportunity, we are clearly wasting our resources and other countries are taking us on. Whichever way you look at it, the left’s argument for handouts doesn’t entirely fit the biblical mandate of earning an honest living with your God given talents and helping your neighbor with your overflow. Ephesians 4:28. Instead, it creates a helpless population and weakens our domestic production, aggregate demand, and eventually GDP.
Another area that should be of concern to the Christian voter is the same sex marriage crisis in our country. The bible makes it clear that it is Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. The holy union of marriage is between a man and a woman only, Leviticus 20:13. The left has distorted the concept of the family unit leaving children as the innocent victims in a confused society stained with sin. Legalizing sin does not subtract it from the Word of God.
Taking God out of the constitution, schools, and various forms of legal language across our institutions has been another popular trend with the left. Our founding fathers inscribed religious freedom as part of our constitution since inception but has recently been challenged by certain groups. We saw this during the pandemic, with forced vaccinations, churches being prohibited from assembling, and pastors being arrested, and put in jail. Parents with children in schools are facing a similar battle.
I had a discussion with one of my pastor friend’s in July, just before the elections about Donald Trump. What he said helped settle this this in my spirit forever. ‘Although Donald Trump is not a Christian, his policies support the Christian community, and he fights for the Christian community so he’s our leader.’
It is a rare type of situation where the one who is fighting for our Christian values is not a Christian himself. This is yet another example that God can use anyone, anytime, for anything. God has no limits, as we know. Based on his previous term in office, and his current policy platform, his policies do indeed support many biblical values stated in this writing.
Many have criticized his personal character, but as I mentioned in my public letter to the president; which man is without sin? The question for Donald Trump isn’t his moral resume, it is what he is going to do for the Christian community. He understands our battle and is equipped to fight on our behalf. God will use someone like that.
